The event was originally scheduled to be held outdoors, but rain moved it into the Statehouse rotunda, where teachers wearing\u00a0red t-shirts filled the floor and two floors of balconies overlooking it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">And as Teresa Meredith, president of the ISTA,\u00a0used her &#8220;teacher voice&#8221; to call\u00a0on elected officials to make significant investments in teacher pay this legislative session, her voice echoed off the walls of the chambers where those\u00a0lawmakers will return on Monday. And if a deal can&#8217;t be reached soon, teachers say they plan to hold a walkout.<\/p>\n<p>Tad Shannon, who has been president of the Eugene Education Association for seven years, said they&#8217;ve kept steady pressure on lawmakers to get the resources teachers need to best serve students.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter sent out to teachers, Shannon wrote: &#8220;No one can do this for us. The time is now. We can&#8217;t wait any longer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The letter claims Oregon has one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation as well as the third highest class size.<\/p>\n<p>Now, teachers are speaking out about the importance of smaller class sizes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe education is about relationships, and in general when we have these mega class sizes &#8212; when you\u2019re seeing 34 students come in in a 45-minute class period and then another 34 to 35 &#8212; you just don\u2019t have time to build those relationships,\u201d said Paul Neiffer, a teacher in the Ione School District in Morrow County.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t continually cut education and expect the results to continually improve,&#8221; Shannon said.<\/p>\n<p>Administrators and teachers alike said students thrive in smaller classrooms and in larger ones they suffer.<\/p>\n<p>Diana Wallace, a learning consultant, said larger classrooms have the ability to create learning gaps.\u00a0 <a The teachers were at the district for two years, the end of their probationary period. help them handle extended combat.<\/p>\n<p>Some historians call Vietnam the \u201clast modern war,\u201d others the \u201cfirst postmodern war.\u201d Either way, it was irregular: Vietnam was not a conventional war with the frontlines, rears, enemy mobilizing its forces for an attack, or a territory to be conquered and occupied. He\u2019s leading a huge, international project looking into alcoholic liver disease, and the San Diego VA has been collecting samples from sick veterans and sending them to his storage facility as part of that study.<\/p>\n<p>The problem, <a href=\"https:\/\/inewsource.org\/category\/risky-research\/\">as we\u2019ve reported<\/a>, is that the patients in San Diego weren\u2019t told the study could compromise their health even further, an ethical violation that an internal review called \u201cserious noncompliance\u201d and has <a href=\"https:\/\/inewsource.org\/2019\/02\/01\/congressional-hearing-san-diego-va-veterans-2019\/\">sparked a call<\/a> for a congressional hearing.<\/p>\n<p>So far, our investigation has led us to contradictory government reports, confusing timelines and disagreements on basic facts.
