China Rules

Editor,

My students and I enjoyed the China Rules supplement.

A few added thoughts:

You essays make it clear, correctly, that China is a capitalist country. Yet you insist they are “Communists.” They aren’t. It is capitalism and empire, here and there.

We note the many similarities between China and the USA:

  • Authoritarian leaders afraid of the masses, Chinese monarchs to Madison, or Trump; Mass surveillance (NSA);
  • Corrupt kleptocrats at the top (Trump, bailouts, dollars pouring out of China);
  • Bought off population (for how long?);
  • Education for capital and empire (curriculum control, high stakes exams, fearful youth);
  • Booming nationalism;
  • Rising inequality;
  • and relentless preparation for war in every area of life (that would be WWIII).

We now also enjoy the “At War,” section..

Our appreciation,
Dr Rich Gibson
